Interesting that it would cost more to take the Bronco and rent a U-Haul trailer for two days, then if I had just taken my F350 and my own trailer... And I could ahve left earlier in the morning instead of having to wait for U-Haul to open, and then finding out I went to the wrong one.. There are two listed with a N. Blackstone address, and I went to the southern one (which is where I wanted to go and thought I was making the reservation for.) Then I ended up having to go to the northern one, and when i got there, I forgot the tie down straps, so I had to go to storage to get them. Yesterday was an interesting day to say the least.
The Bronco averaged 12 mpg on the way down to Inglewood because I was doing 65 mph most of the time until I got to the Grapevine. On the way back I stayed at 55 mph, and got 15 mpg. Today I left at 4am and headed up to Oroville, and filled up the tank, staying at 55 mph, and the gas mileage went down to 12.8 mpg. Over flat land. Should have just taken the F350/car trailer, it gets 13.3 mpg if I stay at 55 mph. Oh well, lesson learned.
Sorry to hear that Jim, I know money don't grow on Trees and Gas is getting Higher, If you have a place to set the camper shell knowing ahead of time you would get better mileage with no trailer, heck you just might like a open bed for a while
Can't wait to get a Diesel. Then I will get good mpg no matter what I am towing. And I can finally join the diesel fraternity. LOL. Need to find a good working E4OD for a 7.3L. Anyone have one in their pocket they are not using?
Some time later this week, I will be picking up an El Camino for this guy and taking it back to Oroville. I hope that means Friday. Traffic on the weekends is much lighter than during the week. And I don't miss the after school program here because there is no program on Fridays. At least this time I know I will be using the F350 and car trailer. Still I am stumped as to why the Bronco did so lousy in the mpg area when it was all flatland driving. It can't need a tune up already, I just gave it one 6-7 months ago.
E4OD, the name given to the 4 speed overdrive automatic transmission that is in my Bronco, my F350, and Jeff's (Infamous-Red460) 1995 F250 4x4 with the Powerstroke diesel.
Im not much of an auto guy but I believe they can just put a new pump seal in. My other hillbilly mechanic buddy was suggesting we do the pump too when we were talking about doing the seal. I dont know what one of those runs.
