I'm on the wrong page for a 2004 but I'm sure someone can help with fuel system problems.
2004 6.0 liter 250 Changed oil and 2 fuel filters last weekend cranked it up and ran ok, started sounding a little funny I turned it off. Hard to crank but cranked and ran ok. Dad has tried to crank it this week and says it wont crank.
Maybe the fuel system has air. How do I purge it out?
Is there a valve to empty fuel bowl like there is on 7.3's?
Thanks in advance.
Wont crank at all.
Im going to try cycling the ignition several times before i try to crank it.
I havent looked at it yet. Trying to get advice for when i do.
Thanks.
What do you mean by "won't crank"?
1. when you turn the key, it doesn't turn over.
2. when you turn the key, the starter turns the engine over but it doesn't start.
#2 could be fuel or a lot of other things. #1 might be dead batts. More accurate descriptions of whats happening will help people understand whats going on.
The drain valve is the allen head screw on the side of the pump down where the lower filter is. The one that's in about the worst possible position if you have a 4x4. (they do sell an updated screw that is hand operated and much easier)
Fuel is electric just like on the 7.3. If you really think it's fuel related, check to see if there's fuel at the pump on the frame rail. Crack the drain valve (screw) open and turn the key on to see if you get any pressurized fuel out of there.
Before I move your thread to the 6.0L PSD forum, I'm curious as to why you posted here?
Stewart
Sorry Stewart, As you can see I am a 2 truck 7.3 owner. The 6.0 is my dad's truck. I first posted here because I wasnt sure I could find the 6.0 forum. After I posted it was easier found than I thought. I posted there also.
OK to move it if ya need to.
The motor turns over no problems, definetly fuel related Im thinking.
Sorry for the confusions.

Gotcha! That makes sense, and is funny too!
I saw your thread there, so I'm glad you found the correct forum, but there's no need to move the thread since you're getting info from our brothers in the six-oh forum.

7.3's Forever !!!
Don't ever doubt the guys in the 6.0 forum. They have a good bunch there, and as much as we like to tease, needle, and joke with each other, they know their tech and are a great bunch of guys who love to help each other too, just like here!
Thanks Stewart, Good to know the 6.0ers come from the same mold. Got some good answers there also.
Got dad's truck running fine for now. Guess I'll see for sure next time it gets cold again.
Took top off of upper filter and heard some air purge out of there. Used drain screw on lower filter and fuel pump to drain some fuel out. After that it sputtered twice but started running normal. Yippee.
Thinking it was some air or maybe water in fuel system. More than likely air since I had just replaced the filters last weekend.
Thanks again everyone.
