Thanks Bob. I thought that was right but there's been so much going on in the last year I have had little time for the truck. I have opportunity to pick up a supposedly very nice bed with tailgate for a song. I think I'll do that and wear the bed until I get the flatbed modified and ready for the swap. I have a Super Cab parts truck I can use to do the modifications to the flatbed so it will be a quick-n-easy swap-out.
Good luck with the project! I'm hoping to take a trip south in the spring and pick up a rust free parts truck for the front clip and bed. I've yet to find the truck though... lol.
They can be found here but there are soooo many being crushed. This one I bought was headed the next weekend to the scrap yard. Cranked it up and drove it onto the trailer. I don't know how far south you're looking at but I can keep an eye open for one and even store one for you until you could come get it.
NC, SC, and GA are always included in my craiglslist searches. Often times though, there's not a whole bunch on there in the sub-1k range. I'd imagine most that are for sale are probably not advertised.
I'm not even looking for anything that runs really. Just rust free. Engine, trans, drivetrain doesn't matter.
My master plan is to bring it home, swap the good parts onto mine, bolt my rusty bed onto the parts truck, and haul it to the recycler. May even break even on the purchase price of the parts truck!
Thank you for offering, it's definitely good to have someone looking out! I most likely won't be ready to get anything until April or so, at which time you'll definitely hear from me!
