OK, so I have a '99 F250 SD with the 8' bed, and two guys at my work both have F250 SD's with the 6' bed. One of them is an '04 and the other I'm not sure.
We were hanging out at my truck and they notice the back wall of my bed curves towards the cab. But on both of their trucks, the bed and the cab walls are parallel. A look underneath the rail from between the bed and cab on my truck shows the filler panel to be curved, so we figured it is supposed to be that way.
So now it's a curiosity for the three of us - What gives with the curved wall? Is it simply because it was necessary for the 8' bed, or.....?
