If you are gentle it will not hurt the seal however I have never seen your method. I really like it. Nice post I will save this one. Next tool going in the box.
I wonder how you can adapt that for install. Did you need too?
Use the knuckle seal driver for the install to seat the seal correctly. OTC 6697 for 2005 and up.
Quick question! About two years ago I replaced my upper and lower ball joints, At that time I replace my dust seal. I assume that the seal is still good. My question is do you recommend replacing the dust seal or can I get by using the that is already in there?

It really depends on how it comes out. That seal if it leaks
will make you hubs not work. If your careful and don't
bugger it up then you hight be able to reuse it and I know
that they are not cheap. Just be ready to replace if it gets a nick.
For people that have not seen or done this you use the OTC 6697
seal driver to set the seal on the shaft out of the truck then you use it
to push the seal and axel into the knuckle The tool helps to locate it at
the right depth. BTW it a heavy SOB. Even the aluminum one with the steel
cap is heavy. But then again your going to be whacking on it with a heavy
hammer. If you want I can look up the 03 & 06 shop instructions and post the
PDF for you. Just ask.

I think he is referring to the dust seal on the axle tube housing and the inner part of the axle. It's on the other side of the U-joint from the knuckle and hub.
I have my Axle and Ujoints removed from my truck. Now I am at the point were I need to remove the old ujoints. I dont have a press. Do you have any suggestions on how to remove the old ones without a press?
