Ford to drop Microsoft Sync

I have read that Ford is going to stop using Microsoft for Voice integration.

Ford Planning to Drop Microsoft for BlackBerry in Its Car Technology System - Bloomberg

I will say that my Ford Sync is less reliable this my Samsung Note 3 voice commands. Our VW Passat sucks as bad as the ford sync system.

I think the biggest problem is the MIC quality issues. Why can my Cell phone detect what is being said sitting in my pants pocket better then the Ford/Microsoft Sync?

That's so depressing.... Blackberry is designed for the corporate world and to be honest is not even good at that as most prefer the iPhone for the ease of use. Android or even IOS() would be a better platform.

I saw this earlier today on another news source and couldn't believe it. SYNC has had its issues but I think this is a mistake. I've had Blackberries, Androids, and iOS and prefer iOS by far. SYNC doesn't work with my iPhone when it comes to text messaging in my Taurus but that's not a big deal for me. The Blackberries I've had have all been pieces of crap and have caused me nothing but problems. The Androids were good phones but they all seemed to slow down regardless of what was loaded on them and regardless of what I dumped from them to try to speed them up. Out of three iPhones I've had now, none of them have had any issues with slowing down and they've all worked very well with SYNC in the Taurus and truck and now with the system in my Jeep.

That said, the system they're talking about isn't necessarily "Blackberry" per se. It's tech from RIM, the company that brought forth the Blackberry and was satisfied with status quo while other companies were moving ahead developing newer technology in leaps and bounds. I think it's a poor decision on Ford's part but time will tell.

It was definitely a mistake to go with Microsoft. You want something that will play well with both iOS and Android. Let's hope Blackberry can do that but I very much doubt it.
Possibly one of the worse technology decision a car maker ever made.

Kind of misleading.

Although I do like BlackBerry and have never had a problem with their phones... It's QNX that is in charge of the automotive portion of this business - a company that they purchased.

Almost every other automaker incorporates their software so it is not that revolutionary - more like Ford decided to follow suit.

This should be interesting. I've never had any issues with SYNC, but of course the interface could be better. I'd love to see how the next generation system stacks up.

Now, if they'd just go with Garmin for their Nav software

Most of Sync has actually been ok for OUR use of it... but the Nav, not so much

I have to laugh at most of the responses. At least Movingsolution knows what's going on.

Some of you guys go drive to the nearest Audi dealership and play around with their multimedia system in a brand new fully loaded car. That will give you an idea of what QNX is capable of.

Ford needs to drop Sync because for years it has actually lowered their customer satisfaction scores.

This is the exact reason I did not purchase the upgraded sync/nav in my 2013 250. My previous car had the touch screen with sync/nav and it was 100% horrible. Actually told me to take 3 left turns one time in order to make a right turn.

I actually considered (shudder the thought) of buying a Ram 2500 that has the Garmin nav instead. For now I will have to settle with a garmin on a suction cup mount.

I ended up getting the basic radio with sync (for handsfree). It still stinks. I guess I will se if the upgrade fixes it, otherwise it is heading to ebay and a kenwood is going in.

Not sure if you are saying the Audi's were good or not -
but IMHO the 2011 version we had was horrible when purchased (maps 3 yrs old) and they released a map update 2 yrs later !!!

No matter if you could bluetooth, sd card, etc.... So imho, not one mfg has hit the mark... I mean as far as nav --- but as cars - audi's were great and loving the 2013's fords (so far)

FWIW, QNX is a Unix-like real time operating system. More information about QNX here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QNX
