Sorry, couldn't resist.
Apparently it was used from 1999-2010 in F250-F550 trucks. Now. I have no reason to doubt that, but I never did find the info in any "official" Ford publication, but rather some transmission/transfer case repair place hawking their services.

Page 76 reveals the NV271 was used for MSOS, and NV273 was used for ESOF.
For the range of MY, you would have to look at each MY spec. But after a quick review, Ford is hit/miss about giving the manufacturer and model of the TC, and sometimes only gives features and specifications of the box.
