Does anyone have any info on how I might the ownership of my 56. I think it would be cool to know who purchased the truck new, and who and where the truck has been titled to down through the years? I thought there may be some search engine via the internet where this info might be available by using the VIN number. Thanks
You used to be able to do that in some states but with privacy laws now you can't even find out who the most recent previous owner was. It would be interesting to trace all the previous owners but it's probably a lost cause...
Hump--I too am researching my 1st 1956 F100.I have found 3 owners and sure it is still in action, but cannot locate it,yet.I believe it to be in CLEARFIELD-DUBOIS,Pa.,area. I have made alot of calls and hope to buy it back 1 day.Never know??? Hope you find your truck's genealogy too.BILL
Good question! I have thought about this as well. It would be really neet to find the original owner and possibly get some history or even pictures of our trucks from back when they used to do real work out on the farm.
The 56 I have now-bought on ebay--I found original owner and went to his farm.1000 acres in Georgia, and the man told me so many things and was a time capsule of info..Definately filled me in with the questions I had. He bought it new in Ga.,and sold it to junkman, after a tornado/twister in area knocked down the barn. The junk man basically ripped him off,and alot of his farm implements.I learned he called it ''ole ticker''. Finding the old owners is a real cool thing.
I have my 49, Willard, traced back to 1962. The father of a friend bought it on a used car lot in San Jose in 1962 and I bought it from him in 1977. Not much hope before 1962. Incidentally by 1962 it already had the flathead V8 replaced with the 56 nailhead Buick that I drove it with for years. An early rodded truck-prior to age 13!
the orginal owner of my truck was from outside Dallas and he has since died. The truck was bought at an estate sale. I found all this out while trying to get it titled.
Wouldn't it be great to find the original owner, who perhaps bought the truck just after the war, and show him what it looks like now? Think of the stories.
I plan on driving my 56 back to the original owner after the Nat's in May.He has called me and has the original paperwork from the Ford dealer in Quitman,Ga..He is a nice old guy.He also gave me the power take off unit for my truck. I wish I could track my 1st 56 past the 3 owners to who has it now.I have the registration cards from 1974-1975,but they don't seem to help.I am open to ideas???BILL
