Hello guys I was taking off the plenum today and got every bolt out of the plenum besides the last one. There is a torx 40 screw I think hidden near the middle on the intake, and I was wandering if any of you had any good ways to get a this screw out.
I'd have to get mine out and look but I believe the actual "tool" is 10" long.
3/8" drive shorty on an extension won't work as I imagine you already figured out, not enough clearance right at the head, however I believe a 1/4" drive setup would get it.
Can also use your basic torx screw driver (long handle), bolts aren't that tight to start with worse case grab handle with channel locks to break it loose.

Ok thank you for your reply. I will try a 1/4 setup before ordering that special tool.
Do you have to take the plenum off on the 1996 f150 to get the crankcase breather cap off? There is a cap in passenger side valve cover under plenum with hose that goes to PCV valve. I think it may be leaking air at grommet giving me a P0174 lean code and check engine light. Thanks for any help.
Thanks for the reply. I have a 5.8. What are the chances the grommet can be leaking air to give me a P0174 lean code. Have checked MFS, EGR including sensor, all vacuum hoses, water tested intake gaskets, new plugs, new filter. Will check fuel rail pressure next but at a loss after that. Don't know if computer could be a problem. Truck runs great only sets engine light 20 miles in town driving. Out of town can go forever on highway no engine light.
P0174? what you got a caddy northstar? ;-) (very common n* problem...) got intake leak in aforementioned gasket or anything rubber from the inside of the mass air to the cylinders themselves?
Have a 1996 f150 5.8 checked everything and it runs high speed good no check engine lean light but low speed around town get check engine light. Don't think it is lack of fuel since it runs good high speed. Have checked all hoses and other as listed in above. Any idea where to go from here. I am concerned about the crankcase cap grommet under upper intake. But have to pull it to check.
Thanks for the advice. I assume you are referring to taking the PCV out plugging where it went in the hose and leave the hose going into the cap open venting the crankcase out of that hose while looking to see if I get a lean code while driving. Have I got that correct?
