acceleration/starting issues - single function reservoir leaking

So I just bought a 1986 Bronco XLT. It's in beautiful condition with no rust and all the original interior in pristine condition for being 28 years old. Before I bought it, I let it run for probably 30 minutes and also drove it obviously. I started it a few times and other than some minor leaks I couldn't find anything major wrong with it.

I had a 25 mile drive home (interstate/stop and go city) and about 20 miles into it, it started bogging down upon acceleration and at times would make a clunking noise. At the last red light before the house, I had to keep my foot on the gas or I felt it was going to stall out.

When I got home, the single-function reservoir was leaking bad, and now it won't start. Could the fuel pressure regulator or inline fuel filter be causing enough back pressure for that to leak or is it possible the reservoir is clogged? The bronco had been sitting for a while, so I'm wondering if some gunk got sucked up into the fuel system and now it's starving the engine of fuel.

I am assuming this is a 302 with fuel injection? If so, those reservoir/switching valve things like to get stuck. You may find one tank getting full while the other one is getting empty also. If you do a search on the web, I think I have seen some guys that have taken this thing apart and worked on it.

Wait a minute, the Bronco's didn't have dual tanks did they? If it doesn't, then that thing just might be the fuel filter, and someone didn't get the o-ring back in correctly.

It is EFI and Bronco's only have one tank. I took the bowl off the reservoir and replaced the filter and o ring. The o ring came out in pieces so that was one reason it was leaking for sure.

There is not another inline silver fuel filter forward of the high pressure pump like I'm used to seeing. Should there be one there or were there years where the reservoir had the only fuel filter?

I am I'm the process of of doing a complete tune up and fluid changes so I haven't checked to see if the new fuel filter and o ring were the problem with it not starting.

That reservoir was the only filter on my 86 fuel injected ranger. They seem to follow the same theme as the bigger trucks.
