throttle response

I have a 97 f250 8800 gvw with intermittent throttle response under different conditions.

Cold start, the engine will not go above 1400 rpm. blows black smoke if you insist driving it, truck bogs. If allowed to warm up (between the n and o in normal on the gauge) runs as it should. After warm up, I will be driving and out of the blue no throttle response. I have observed the temperature go down slightly and then no throttle response, temp up takes off and runs. The truck has not thrown one code since new. Any thoughts?? Thanks

Sounds like the exhaust back pressure valve. There is a two wire connector right under the compressor housing on the turbo. Unplug it and see if it still does it.

Ok now, first welcome to the forum. The guys here will help you figure it out.

Heres my 2 cents. The EBPV is just a flap or a butterfly that restricts hot exhaust from escaping and is said to help warm the engine. IMHO its just a nuisance. I live on eastern long Island and this has been a brutally cold winter.
Mine has been unplugged for years. As the previous poster told you, unplug it. It will default in the open position. This will take the EBPV out of the riddle for now. You said it bogs, if you hear a thumping/pumping sound from under the hood and a wooshing/sucking sound from the exhaust, that is the EBPV closing. As far as no throttle response, may not just be the EBPV. these trucks don't have traditional throttle linkage. There are 2 sensors on the pedal that send info to the engines computer, telling it to go faster. Throttle position and idle validation. Read some of those posts. Good Luck

EBPV is now unplugged, symptom still here. I have read the posts regarding the TPS and IVS and found knock offs (pedal assy) out there for less than $200 on amazon of all places as Ford seems pretty proud of theirs. On line components.com is out of stock for the IVS, I am still looking for the TPS. The part that throws me off is the truck seems normal (somewhat) when it comes up to operating temp.

Thanks for the feed back, I'm leaving the EBPV unplugged.

Ok man. Hate to see ya throwing good money after bad. Maybe hold off on those sensors(for Now). Look into that temp issue. I just re-read your initial post. That temp thing never registered in my head. I've never had an issue like this with my PSD..........but with my boat and car (both gas), I had acceleration problems with rough running and irratic temp sensor. Both times turned out to be stuck thermostat. There are tons of guys here that are smarter than me on this though. Maybe someone else can chime in. Good luck.
