brake lights

Ok I just purchased a 1972 f100 custom sport 4x4 the brake lights work every now and then I tryed a new switch but that wasn't the problem could there be a dead short somewhere

First thing I check...

Especially when it is an intermittent problem is the Grounds. When the problem is occurring at that time turn on one of the signal lights right then left, and see if the opposite side glows dimly. If so, it's a ground problem.

Welcome to the forums.

Do you have a constant 12v at the brake switch? Wiggle the wire and see if that causes you to loose power.

Do the blinkers work correctly?

The brake light power goes through the turn signal switch so if that has issues you will loose brake lights.
