A few days ago I was driving when another driver flagged me down and informed me that none of my brake lights were working. I got to a place where I could pull over and try to determine the problem. I turned on the headlights and emergency flashers and they both worked. Since I was by myself at the time, I was unable to check the brake lights on the side of the road.
I went to another location where I had help and in fact the brake lights were not working. This didn’t make any sense to me as the parking lights, turn signals and emergency flashers were working. I checked all of the fuses associated with the brake lights and they were all good.
So being away from home and needing these fixed quickly, I bit the bullet and went to Ford. As it turned out the part that was broken is the Stop Light Switch (near brake pedal) F87Z-13480-AA. It is a $20 part on Amazon and $30 at Ford (plus install).
Hopefully this info helps another FTE member in the future.
Glad it was a quick easy fix. I had a similar issue a few years ago and the problem ended up being a short inside the multi-function stalk (turn signal, wipers, etc). There is a wiring path for the brake lights that routes through there...
