It would be nice to see service records and to see what's Been done, ie EGR delete, studs ect would be a bit of a bonus. Otherwise budget for those things in your offer if all checks out.....
Figure about $5 - $6K on top of asking price for a bullet proof truck, if you can swing that it's a bargain vs. buying a comparable new one!
So ask yourself... self if it had all the bulletproof stuff done to it and it was $19K would I buy it? If the answer is yes then you have your answer...
Yep that's exactly how I'm looking at it. I can say if it does have some issues I won't pay asking price for sure. Basically if asking plus mods is more than book value--then nope but we will see--hopefully look at this one later today.
A good detailer can do that in a 1/2 hour and not use a pressure washer. Just looks like good sales prep to me . Although au naturel is better for the buyer so you can inspect the degas bottle for white residue. That just means you'll have to get it up temp and mash the skinny pedal on a hill to see if it pukes .
I know a detail shop that does a lot of business doing just that to engines for used car lots. They are not always trying to hide things, just making it look better to potential customers. You want to sell a used vehicle? Clean engine bay and put new tires on it!
well went to look at the truck--but was told it was sold LAST night--wtf--I talked to the guy this morning--so much for reputable dealer--won't even look at one from that place again. I figure it went in a dealer auction. looks like it was a good sight for me. The quest is still on.
Had the same thing happen to me before I bought the one I have. It was a really nice 04 King Ranch, light green, beautiful truck. Dealer said if I threw 100 bucks down he'd hold it. I gambled and lost. Came back the next day, and the guy sold the truck the previous night. Man I was pissed.
It"s OK K David, it probably had green coolant it there any how, and who knows the Tranny was ready to fall out, don't let the dealer rush you for a sell. was'nt ment to be.

Yup, good advice, there is a reason he sold it out from underneath you, you were asking good questions and were checking things out, he would rather go with a less knowledgable buyer sale than if you look into all your testing and then make an offer knowing what you need to do later to the truck.....
Thanks--yes very good advise--and you can bet I wont get into a hurry and get screwed due to that The one thing with me--the only reason I need a sales person is to point the vehicle out to me and answer a few questions other than that they better leave me alone to do my thing. I can guarantee whomever bought the truck didn't know what they were looking at. From the time the truck was posted to the time it was sold--there is no way they could have checked it out. I estimate it will take me a min. of 3 to 5 hours to fully (a full day would be best) check a truck out--that is from KOEO test, warmup, test drive, chasis shake down, 4x4, etc. In my mind anybody that spends less then that is just asking for trouble--unless they are alot more lucky than I am
Is it a dealership that is selling it? COME WITH A WARRANTY??
getting the plastic all shinny is easy, that black max tire detailer works wonders on the plastic and hoses in an engine bay.
My buddy bought a dealer truck with 180K on it. 90 day warranty.
drove it home, put the Tuner to it, drove the ***** off of it and two weeks later the head gaskets went. Took it back to the dealer and they actually sent it to Ford to have the gaskets done, and they gave him the option to install ARP studs(he had to pay for them). Basically got the headgaskets done for free.
Well sent off a few questions on another one. It's a 2005 at a local ford dealer (they sell alot of diesels) I asked very pointed questions so we will see what they come back with.
If they answer to my liking I'll go shake her down.
update--not 5 minutes or so after I posted this I got a call from the dealer. The lady said she gave my questions to the service manager and was getting the Oasis report and should have it for me this evening or first thing in the morning--wow. I told the lady I was kinda shocked (playing it up) and she said well it's information you wanted wasn't it--why yes it is. I feel better deciding to deal with a local Ford dealer that sells alot of diesels anyway. A buddy of mine just bough a 2012 model from them and got a good deal. So we will see how it goes--but impressed with them so far (but still skeptical on the truck until I lay my hands on it and test)
