Neither truck nor driver would survive the abuse they are put through today. If BF #1 caught air there wouldn't be a wheel left under it 5' after the landing. Being able to scare the crap out of passengers was cool in the early days but single seat race trucks are much more exciting for both drivers and spectators.

True. But I think Monster Trucks have forgot their roots. I miss the car crushing/mud bogging aspect of it. Nowadays, it's to see who can get to the finish first and to see who can miss all the cars in a single leap it seems.

That, and the original look of a monster truck (i.e. Bigfoot until 1990, Rollin' Thunder, Michigan Ice Monster, Monster Vette, etc.)just looks better over the NASCAR look of them nowadays.

And if I haven't already mentioned, lol. The original Bigfoot logo looks WAAAAYY better than the one nowadays.

Steven,

For you to even remember Michigan Ice Monster you must be a long time fan. By the time Bret entered the scene the sport was already focusing on racing. However contemporary trucks were not fast enough, or structurally sound enough, to clear the cars.

BF held onto their original paint scheme until they added additional color (orange & yellow stripes) in ‘89 at the long time urging of promoters.

After over 20 years, and many setbacks, to this day the sport is still struggling to acquire legitimacy.

LOL. Yeah. I've been a fan of monster trucks since I was a little kid. I even remember seeing Bigfoot I and Bigfoot V in person, at the Kingdome in Seattle in 1985. I've kinda lost most of my enthusiasm for the sport after Bigfoot got rid of the original paint scheme, and since Gravedigger came onto the scene.

I think Gravedigger has a big part in why the sport is struggling to find legitimacy. Of course, it's my personal opinion, but I find Dennis Anderson and the entire Gravedigger team to be ridiculously wreckless.

Oh well.

Now that I've derailed the topic, lol...

Dennis "One Run" Anderson is the real deal. He has always been a WFO driver. However he is now paid to be reckless because it sell tickets. Most people don't realize that he hasn't owned Gravedigger for some time. IMO, the most damaging event which brought the wrestling image upon the sport was the introduction of ‘Snake Bite' which is/was BigFoot. This was actually done in an attempt to compete with Gravedigger's popularity. But don't get me started.....

Well I cant remember the Michigan Ice Monster but I can remember The year Big Foot came to Silver Lake Sand Dunes man now that was cool. Seeing sand fly all the way down the hills was un-real.
