2.5 L Piston Slap
In January I had the engine replaced on my 2009 Ford Escape 4 cyl. They replaced the long block under warranty. However, it's been about a month, now I have no warranty and I have noticed that at cold start after sitting overnight (at only about 0-7 degrees Celsius, maybe 40-42 degrees Fahrenheit) I always get a knocking sound for about 1 to 2 minutes. It's sounds like piston slap. I've only put 1500 km on the engine and got a oil change at my dealer to see if it would get rid of the issue; which is still present.
Is this normal for the engine?
What kind of pistons/ piston skirts are on this engine?
Is it an issue?
Should the dealership take care of this problem with no cost to me?
Also, at warm idle when I am standing beside the car I can hear a slight ticking sound almost all of the time. It seems to be coming from the bottom part of the engine. Is this normal?
I am really getting fed up with this Ford as I have had countless issues with the thing.
If abnormal, there should be a factory 90 day/3,000 mile warranty as a minimum. If it was replaced under warranty, a Ford approved re-man company was used, and they should stand behind their engine. The dealership should pay for the labor involved, just as if you had bought the engine from them. IMO. You may have to talk to a 'zone rep' who will listen to your story and make a decision.
