1999 ford escort engine
Has anyone heard of problems with the 1999 Ford Escort engine and cracked pistons? My sister has one with only 32,000 miles and one piston has cracked. A search through recalls and TSB's didn't turn up with anything, but when we contacted Jasper about an engine, we were told this is a common problem. Just wondering if there may be some re-course.

No knowledge of that problem personally, but if she has the longer emissions warranty, then she *may* be covered for repair. It would not pass a test with a cracked, piston, NO? So, if it has the 8yr/80K warranty she may get FoMoCo to help.
Check w/your dealer and look in the glovebox for the emissions warranty statement.
