The stuck shifter won't set a code. Do your brake lights work? Non working brake lights is a common reason for the shifter to be stuck in park.
This Man right here^^^^ can Help you Big Time!!!
SO I take it your Trans shifts OK but the Problem lies somewhere between the Shifter on the Steering Colum and Linkage at the Trans Connection where you unhooked it
So is that Correct^^^????Assumption ?????
A Bad Temp sensor will cause lots of problems truck can go into limp mode BUT WILL/Should Shift manually into Gears
Yes I have read lots of posts by Mark and he knows his stuff and I'll read anything he writes.
I believe your assumption is right. The guy that came to scan it was able to get it through the gears and now it is going into all gears very easily. (We didn't do anything to fix it) It must be something in the linkage or bushings but I think your right it's not in the trans itself. We were just able to drive it forward and reverse.
Unfortunately his scanner only told me of a glow plug code. When we got it into gear it still does the same thing where it stalls for awhile and then goes. So I'm pretty confident that I have a bad temp sensor and something going on with the shifter side of things.
I could now drive it somewhere to get it scanned possibly but I guess that would have to be the ford dealership only at this point? I'm debating just changing the sensor and seeing what it does.
If it physically WILL NOT Shift Park to Drive or Park to Reverse that's Not the Temp Sensor
I would search brake pedal deal I'm not sure where is stops the shift at But I thinking it makes it so you cant Move the Shifter on the column itself
Yes so I have 2 separate problems it seems.....although when we scanned it we did get the shifter to move and it drove. I'm not sure but it seems to be moving smoothly at this point.
So as of now I just have the other symptoms like delayed take off and erratic shifting which everyone seems to think trans temp sensor.
It's just been the weirdest chain of events these past couple days.

Yes I would Agree temp sensor on that they cause some Crazy drivability issues
I had one go out a Year ago
Usually they act Really erratic temp High then Low Mine would swing temp of 60*f to 8000*f+ within the first mile I knew it wasn't that hot LOL that trans would have been a Puddle of metal on the ground
I wonder if you Brake pedal switch is Getting Flakey or a wiring short causing it to Not Release since it sounds like Intermittened problem not being able to shift
I see if I have some info on it AND post it if I find it
Ok so I think I have noticed something interesting on the stuck in park problem. I have learned that it will only let me shift out of park if the truck is warmed up for awhile.
Last night it was the same thing when the guy first got here to scan it it would not budge from park, but after it was started and sitting for awhile it would let us.
Well I just went to start it and check and upon first start I tried it and it wouldn't budge. I left it sit for about 5 minutes and when I came back I was able to move it into gear.
And I just went to buy all the items for the tft change. I couldn't get the OEM filters so I just got motorcraft mercon LV fluid so far. I might have to order the filters.
And on the sensor itself I have found 2 brands neither is motorcraft...is that OK or does it need to be ford also?
Now before I started spending money I want to get it scanned but it is now stuck in Park. I am working on getting someone with the correct scanner that can scan the stored transmission codes to come to my hoouse. But from what I have read the past couple days it seems to me the likely culprit is the transmission temp sensor. But the part that I don't understand is would that also be responsible for it getting stuck in park?
Have you tried turning the steering wheel a bit one way or the other?
IF you hold the wheel slightly to one side when you take the key out, you'll notice the wheel will move back towards center and can sometimes have enough pressure to keep the lever stuck in park.
Just turn the wheel and see if that doesn't free up the wheel and lever with the key on.
