Would the brackets from a pre-92 not work in conjunction with the bracket from a 92+? I haven't been able to attempt it as it's been too cold the last few weekends but looking at the brackets on the original bumper from my '89:
Couldn't you bolt that to this bracket on the 92+ bumper:
And mount it in the same way as the original?
Here is how I converted an '87-'91 support to a '92-'96. The gray on is the earlier one. Here are the two side by side.
After careful measuring I cut what I needed off the '94 support. I made the splice right at the small reveal line that is the same for both supports. You can see how much wider the '87-'91 support is at the fender attachment. The OBS fenders would hit this area. You can't just bolt the OBS fender plates to the Brick support.
Converted to '92-'97 style.
Added the fender mounts and checked the fenders and everything lines up as it should.
A little paint and undercoating.
The only thing that gives it away is the reminants of the big headlight hole in the Brick support that wasn't covered up.

Yes and no. to put the OBS bumper on a pre 92 truck, you need the brackets on the outside of the frame(kinda like the 87-91). Also if you move the OBS bracket to the outside of the frame rail and then weld the 87-9 brackets to it.
OR, get (2) 2x2 angle iron the height of the bumper and bolt them on
Like so(don't mind the bumper, it is full of concrete)
So the bracket in my first picture wouldn't work bolted to the current bracket on the OBS bumper and then use the pre-92 plate and bolts?
It looks like there would be plenty of room for left to right bracket adjustment and up and down bumper adjustment. Maybe I'm missing something, I only did a quick look and took a few pictures.

No, because the 92-97 "bracket" bolts to another brace INSIDE the BOXED frame
You have no BOX and nothing INSIDE the frame on the 91 and older trucks
92+ frame(passenger rail looking at from straight on)
I don't think I explained what I was meaning very well
I was going to try to use the bracket on the pre-92 bumper and bolt it to the 2 middle slots on the bracket currently on the 92+ bumper. That pre-92 bracket should then allow me to bolt it like a normal pre-92 through the outside side of the frame, no?
I'm guessing I can bolt the pre-92 bracket either on the front or back side of the 92+ bracket with or without washers to get the correct gap/fit also.
I think this is one of those just try it and see if it works things. Was just curious if anyone actually tried it
