I have a 1979 f250 with a 351w/c6 auto/ and 2wd ive noticed a "hissing" sound (what I believe is a vacuum leak) coming from the rear of the engine. when I start the truck I have to hold the throttle till it warms up or else it will stall out. Also when I push the brakes or turn the wheel the rpms drop. idk if that has anything to do with the sound but im giving you all the info on my truck.
I currently replaced the vacuum advance valve thinking that was the problem but it still does it. I checked all the lines and they don't have any holes. im thinking maybe egr valve or the vacuum tree
I found my vacuum leaks by spraying carb cleaner on all my vacuum lines... Once my idle would raise then I would concentrate on that general location until I found my bad hose. I also hear WD40 works well?!!
I have a 74 f100 w/360 2v. Had a similar problem about a month ago. Apparently the PVC fitting (huge) on the back of the carb had somehow become dislodged. There may be some fasteners back there but it is almost impossible to see. I just pushed it back into place and now runs great.
