I have an `85 F350 2wd with a T19 4 speed trans. I have a trans leak coming from the seam of the rear housing to the main housing. I assume it is a bad gasket although the trans is freshly rebuilt.
My Haynes manual does not provide much info on repairing these trans, but it does show an exploded view of a T18 which looks very similar.
From looking at the exploded view it seems pretty straight forward to remove the rear housing. Remove cross member, drive shaft, output flange, speed-o cable, and four bolts holding the rear housing on. Is that all there is? Are these units known for leaking at this spot? Is it okay to put a bit of RTV on the new gasket?
Thanks Steve but, while the site went into good detail on the gear box it did not cover anything on the extension housing other than showing the rear seal installation tool. There was no discussion/pictures on removal or installation of the housing itself or the gasket sealing between the gear box and the extension housing.
