What do I need to replace leaking tranny seal

Ok, so I found out via the forums I need a Precision #16601EV seal, due to my trans leaking 5 liters of trans fluid when climbing a hill with our 5th wheel Newmar... I also need the cooper collar thing that sits with it.

BUT MY BIG QUESTION IS.... Is there anything else I'll need seal wise?? I've spoke to a guy in the UK, who is a mechanic but NOT transmission specialist and he reckons that there will be some sort of seal/gasket for the torque converter???

Does the converter have to be even removed?

Is there a online manual for the 4R100 or at least a detailed exploded view? tried google but came up with loads of junk basically

Its a uphill struggle getting the bits or any info from the USA.

Have e-mailed Clay at Riff Raff but he wants me to contact John Wood with my issue before offering me stuff, so about to do that at big phone costs lol!!

Contacted transmissionpartsusa.com but alarmed they can not even supply a transmission cooler for my truck,

They just said...

The part #26401 is the seal and you can look at the picture on the website.
The pump bushing is part #27626, also on the website.
We don't have a cooler available because you have different line sizes.
You can get one at any parts store.
Shipping is available from USPS & UPS as well, use the drop down bar to find the shipping options available.

Any guys out there that build or repair these 4R100 that can advise me.

I've a fed up wife now who is pushing me to sell truck as is as she just wants to get out in our trailer, but due to spending a small fortune she's not budging me yet and besides I may end up buying another shed lol!!

Just to highlight my truck is an early 99 F350 single wheel 7.3 XLT and this is what I'm pulling

Confusing for sure. When I removed my torque converter to fix a broken flexplate, I put it back in without changing the seal (not sure which seal it is on the diagram). MISTAKE. It now leaks...a very slow leak, but enough to bug me. I'm not a big fan of pulling a 225,000 mile transmission just to replace a seal. Knowing what I know now...replace the seal while it is out.

Here is what you need
Ford Truck 4R100 Transmission Front Pump seal Kit | eBay

Its not really hard if you have any mechanical skills. Two of the bolt holes in the pump are threaded and you need a couple of long bolts to screw in and then pull and wiggle to get the pump out.

Let me start by saying I have the same problem and have done my homework on this issue. Later I'll forward a tread I had started on the front pump seal. And hopefully it will make it a little easier to understand.
Now my front pump seal leaks but it isn't real bad about a 1 quart every 400 miles. It shifts good and all other parts are good. But I starting digging into the subject of the front pump rebuild and some mods. With the help of Sonnax trans parts. They make some realy nice mod / upgrade parts. So I myself am going to MOD the front pump with the help of TransmissionPartsUSA.com Here is my wish list and then google the parts and that might help you out.
36605-02K E40D 4R100 Transmission cooler bypass valve kit
36425-01K E4OD Transmission front lube and converter drain-back valve.
36424-10A E4OD 4R100 Transmission main pressure regulator spring (1 spring)
36424-04K E4OD 4R100 Transmission line to lube pressure regulator valve.
36424-01K E4OD 4R100 Transmission boost valve & sleeve kit with o-rings.
36438A E4OD 4R100 Transmission pump gear for F5 & F8 pumps 1995 & newer
27626 AODE 4R70W 4R100 Transmission pump bushing
26TM03 4R100 ATSG Transmission repair manual
26025A 4R100 Overhaul kit, with OEM rubber pan gasket 1996-on.
All these parts to mod the front pump for under $200 !!! Or you can spend $50 and R&I (Remove and Install) and just change seal, gaskets and bushing. The bushing is a must!! If not you can blow the new seal in No time.

Thanks for all the info again, all very informative.

I had been looking at replacing trans pump with a referb upgraded unit while doing the seals but sadly after 20 minute calls to USA all have failed to get back to me inc a Co I was encouraged to call, so with the greatest regret it looks like we may have to just sell our F350, but now too worried to buy another especially as the UK simply does not support HD F bodies only the little F150's.. which could never pull our Newmar 34'

I wouldnt give up that easy. Try ebay. There are pumps on there and some may ship to the UK. The pump should come with a new bushing and seal. Just make sure it comes with the o-ring and paper gasket.

Believe me, we REALLY don't want to throw in the towel, especially after spending $$$$ on all the upgrades but I found it easier getting bits for our Dodge Viper than our truck...

What makes things even harder is ours is a early 99 and RWD.

prime example, I have a noisy front wheel bearing when turning left but at present not found the unit we need due to being a early 99, not that I'm going to sort that until we decide what to do regarding the transmission leak

Weird thing is the UK is full of 05+ Mustangs and 95+ Dodge Rams, you could build a vehicle with UK parts supplies available, but none of the big USA part suppliers stock anything for the HD F series trucks other than air filters, fuel filters, oil filters and brake pads, that is it.

On a side note took the truck for a 30 mile drive today, all is normal and no leaks, so seems no damage was done when 5.5 litres of trans fluid was blown out... one good thing I guess

Does anybody know if the transmission pump is unique on the early 99's

As by what I can make out there seems to be a couple of variation on pumps I'm looking at on E-bay

I can just see it now, ordering a pump, getting it shipped to the UK and finding out its wrong and in turn worthless here!!!

Just as an example I just sold a brand new Airaid induction kit for $50 as it was wrong for the early 99, have a 6637 kit now

The pump number will be F8, for the 4R100. Nothing unique for the early 99 year.
