2005 Ford E350 6.8 V10 van overheated cause temp gauge didn't work blew intake gasket, fix that but now I need to get the gauge working so the costumer can get the van back.. It has a new Coolant Temp Sensor and another instrument cluster still doesn't work.. If I ground out the connector the gauge will shoot up to HOT, I put a power probe on the connector and I have a good ground when I check the + wire I dont even get 1volt.. Not sure what to do from here...
Is your replacement cluster of the same model year or a known compatible part? That could be a minor issue although it would seem you have a problem with the wiring.
I'd check continuity between the temp sender connector and the corresponding terminal on the cluster connector. That's probably where your problem originates.
Pretty sure the cluster was from the same year model.. and the reason it was replaced is cause the temp gauge wasn't working but turns out it works when you ground out the connector.. But my Power Probe is showing it has a ground..
After tanking the van down the hwy for about 15min I ran a wire off the sender itself to the block and the gauge never went up... there's a green and red wire going to the sender grounded the green wire to the block and it shot up to HOT
Noticed earlier while looking at the van seen some fresh looking electrical tape on the temp sending wires took the take off and someone had spliced in a new connecter so figured maybe they got the wires wrong so swapped the wires and drove it and it never moved... I'm put my power probe on the wires one wire I have a ground and the other I'm getting like 0.2 to 0.4 volts....
