Identify this part?

2002 Ex, 5.4 2wd.

Wife got home the other night in a cloud of steam, but the needle wasn't showing hot yet. Popped the hood and lots of water everywhere but I could not spot the leak in the dark. Reservoir was dry.

Finally got back to check it out in sunshine today and found it. Can't get to the parts store until tomorrow, so I'm trying to do some homework first.

About 1 1/2 inches long, 1/4 inch diameter, looks like a hose cap, but I don't know what to call it, or why it's there. It's not connecting anything, just capping a bib on top of the engine. Just fastened with a hose clamp.

That is a vacuum nipple cap! Looks like it was held in place with a small clamp. I am unfamalliar with that manifold. I can tell you that that cap is certainly not intended to keep boiling coolant contained! You'd be better off with a wad of gum and a prayer to Abu.... the Excursion God!

I would put a small hose on it with a bolt in the end and 2 small clamps. That set-up could get you stranded.

That fitting would be for the PCV valve heater. It would provide hot coolant to the PCV valve to keep it from freezing in cold climates.

A hose would be attached there to the PCV and another hose to return coolant the back of intake.

If it is not needed a hose/bolt combo should work fine.
