I just found a place in SoCal that will rebuild almost anything for a reasonable price including my steering box. I still want to get a spare and rebuild both.
they are called the Rebuilding Factory and can be found on the net at rebuildingfactory.com. If anybody knows of this outfit please feel free to give your opinion.
Regards,
Chex
That is close, but not quite. That is the stock Ford and looks almost exactly the same as a '57. The Aerobilt is a bit more aerodynamic and the grill is not as wide. I will get pics taken later today and upload them. Also, mine is a bit longer, I believe.
My dad bought a van just like the one that Kenny posted, about twenty years ago. It was already converted into a RV when my dad bought it for $200. Who ever did the coversion did a great job in the inside but brush painted the outside. I took it camping for a couple of summers, my dad never trusted it but when you're 18 you aren't afraid of much. It was a lot of fun pushing the straight six with three speed up a steep hill on the two lane state highway on Memorial Day weekend. I backed up traffic for a good mile . Oh what memories!!
yes, they used the "55" grille for the parcel deliveries from 1955 to I am not sure but it could be up into the '60's. They used the "53" grille in 1953 and '54. But before you all go out looking for the Parcel Deliveries in junk yards for the grilles... these grilles are not as long as what was on the F-series trucks! If you go to flea markets, "buyer beware". Always take a tape measure along. Also don't assume that used tailgate you see will fit your F-100... it may be for a F-250.
I finally found the stupid little cable for my digital camera, and uploaded a couple of pics to my gallery. You can see the difference in the windshield and especially the grill, compared to the stock P350 of the same vintage. What you cannot see very well is the little access door above the grill.
Ironically enough, today I found a fleet of old Aerobilts still running in Chico. They vary in age from about '59 to '66, and some have the wrap around windshieldwhile others do not. Some have dual rear wheels too. There are about ten of them and they all have the distinctive aluminum bodies. One of them is a parts vehicle which the owner is happy to give up. How lucky can a guy get?
I use it for a daily driver, and to take long road trips. Six years ago I drove up and down the west coast from Mexico to Canada all summer long as a family vacation. Right now I want to finish the restoration and paint it, and then take it to local car events.
Hello,
I have acquired a bit of an 'odd duck' and would appreciate any info someone might have in their archives... mental or otherwise. It is a 1957 'Mercury' (Ford P350) with the Aerobilt aluminum body but apparently it was 'factory' built as an RV. The raised roof, bath, propane systems, auxiliary fuel tank, interior workmanship, etc. etc. are all beyond what you would get from a home-built job. I had never seen one before and couldn't resist...
It has a 223-6 with 'three on the tree' and is in pretty good shape overall. The only clue is a metal plate that says "The Van-Wilson Equipment Company Ltd - Model SK 2212 - Date 8M 57". Some research on the net suggests that this company operated out of Ontario.
Does anyone know if the Aerobilt company ever did a factory RV?

Amen, Amen!
I bought one of those "narrower grilles" about 6 years ago at Pigeon Forge...thought I'd scoreda great deal when the guy let me have it for Canadian at par!
Oh well, live and learn... now you can avoid that lesson and find one for yourselves!
Since it has an aluminum body, it would be really cool to strip and polish at least a portion of it rather than repainting it all. Think Airstream trailers...
Old thread I know...but thought I would throw this in here. The vans I believe you have here is a Van-Wilson Kurb-Side...and I have started a FB group for the owners of these vans to try and gather more information. Thanks!
