Hey guys, got a major problem here on my 93 f350 N/A 7.3 and am hoping you can help diagnois it. Went out to start my truck this afternoon after it sat all night unplugged, and it didnt want to start, which is normal when unplugged. but when i popped the hood after 3-4 15 sec crank sessions, i noticed smoke coming up from behind the air cleaner. pulled the housing, and the yellow power wire to the GP controller has become all melted and discolored. What do you think, is my controller toast, or should i be looking at faulty GPs? Maybe just the relay on top? I just replaced all the GPs in the fall w/ all motorcraft ones.
Ok, so replaced the GP relay on top of the controller and the power wire from the fender relay out to the GP relay. Everything was working fine, was getting 10sec on the WTS light, did not get any after clicking/cycling though. I figured this was not a problem because the engine was still fairly warm from the drive to the shop. But now just hopped into the truck to drive to town, and only got 2 sec of wait to start. finished in town, and less than 1 sec WTS. WTF is going on? I hope i didnt just fry 8 new GPs....
yes a stuck solenoid may pop a gp. however it is rare. if you have late model controller, the feed back of the gp's (resistance) is what tells the controller if the gps are hot, and or the engine is warm, so as not to need gps. test your gp's and or your controller may have went TU.
