99 Transfer Case Question
I am considering buying a 99 6spd 7.3 4x4 DWR with 250k miles. The front prop (drive) shaft is missing. The used car dealer has no explanation other than, it could have been the shaft, or the front differential, or the transfer case.
Is there a common failure point for this model and what type of parts bill could I run into fixing the 4x4? Is the transfer case for the 6spd the same as the other transmissions?
I only need the 4x4 to cover a mile of muddy road when it rains about 10 time a year. I need it functional but not perfect.

you should be able to test the transfercase by putting in 4x4 & test drive.the front axle could get tested by locking the hubs & test driving,confirm the hubs locked by trying to turn the axle shafts next to your balljoints,also give tthe front diff. pinnion a shake.
