I own a 1978 ford f150. Here's my problem, with the truck in 2 wheel drive, the front drive shaft spins. My hubs are unlocked. The front drive shaft doesnt have any power to it, but it is spinning. My transfer case(np 205) works fine though. To make sure the problem was not my front axle, i put it up on jacks and it did the same thing. I am confused, can anybody give me any ideas or help? thanks

When you say it spins, you mean it spins when you're moving? Does it look like it's going slower than the rear driveshaft? With the transfer case in 4x2, and hubs unlocked, can you rotate the shaft with your hand easily?
Mine does it too ('74 F250 highboy w/divorced NP205). My friend was yelling at me from the next lane, saying "Your in 4x4!!" - well, I wasn't and after I told him to calm down, he realized the front shaft wasn't going as fast as the rear.
It all boils down to: There is some energy transfered to the front driveshaft from all the spinning stuff in the hubs and transfer case. If the shaft is free-turning by hand with everything unlocked, what you're seeing is just that - a little energy transferred through the transfer case to the front driveshaft.
If it's hard or impossible to turn by hand with it in 4x2, hubs unlocked, then you have a problem.
yeah, it spins slower, than the back one. Ive seen other trucks with the same set-up, have no spin in the front drive shaft. i wonder if there is something i can do to stop it from spinning?
