and like i posted before i knew it was gonna be a temp fix....i just didn't know how temp. I was hoping it'd last till the next sparkplug change/rebuild. turns out it didn't last a few hundred miles but with the right plug it lasted 800 miles course by the time i had learned the sparkplug was creating all sorts of havoc it had already messed up the threads too much. there's no way that everyone that installed this kit had this problem and i still have no idea why the autolite burned so hot it melted itself and the adapter. I also don't know why the champion seemed to work just fine....
You're right. I didn't mean to make it an "I told you so" post.
My intent was to underscore my previous caution, so anyone else contemplating the (in my opinion) POS Dorman "fix" would seriously think twice and decide to do it the right way with a threaded insert, like Timesert.

i know people have said many bad things about helicoils and rightly so i'm sure. before i bought my 5.4 expedition at 62k miles it blew a factory plug and the shop the previous owner took it to used a helicoil to repair it. i'm now at almost 100k with no issues thus far.
either way there are many ways to fix it without costing an arm and a leg or taking a ton of time.
The plugs in my airplane use helicoils. They will work if Correctly installed. Overheating of a plug can be caused by poor heat transfer from the plug to the head if the installation is loose. My guess was the plug was loose and overheating before total failure.

I like "I told you so's" but every time I give it out I get slammed for it. It's called "you gotta be cruel to be kind".
