Hello everyone. I posted back in October about my father passing away and leaving his '55 behind (ref. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...-old-55-a.html).
You have all been so great and supportive. It's been almost a year since he died and my mother and I are ready to give sell the truck. I don't really have an emotional attachment to it (my brother kind of claimed it years ago). Since my brother is in Iraq and can't really do much, he asked me to find out some info and to sell it for him and my mom. I've had a few people look at it, but no one will make an offer - just stating "Well, how much you want for it?" I'd like my brother to get a fair deal. Here's what I know about it:
It was fully restored and last driven in 1991. It's been garage kept (in Arizona) pretty much since then. The last thing I my dad said about it was that it was in great condition, but needed electrical work. An autobody guy took a look at it today and said, "It's definitely a project truck, but it is structually in pretty good shape." (side note: he wouldn't even offer a price). I put together a gallery of some pictures at https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...?albumid=28920. If anyone has some thoughts on how I can find the fair market value of this truck, I'd appreciate it. Also, Thanks for all the kind words on my earlier post- You guys really are great.
From the pics, the truck looks nice, except that it looks awful under the hood. The main value of a project truck is in the sheet metal. In your case, the sheet metal looks very good. Closer inspection will tell how much of the shape under that paint is steel or bondo and how well the paint job was done. The interior is nice. Basically, it's worth a few bucks, depending on the salvageability of the driveline.
If the driveline is toast, but the interior and body are good, I would estimate the value at between $3000-$5000, but those are California dollars. Mostly, it depends on how much rust there is and/or how any rust repair and the paint job was handled.
Where in Arizona are you? Perhaps one of our members lives close enough run by and check it out more thoroughly for you.
Hi Randy Jack,
Thanks for your reply. The truck is at my mom's in Mesa, AZ. I'm pretty sure there is very little or no bondo on the body. I didn't really clean up the engine much before the pictures. Aside from the damage time inevitably causes, the engine and everything worked very well in 1991. Thanks for your help. If anyone is in the area and wants to take a look at it, they can email me directly at mr_paap@hotmail.com. Thanks again.
Yeah it sure looks clean and in really nice condition very clean and straight and still a beauty wouldnt take much to make it the perfect show vehicle it already is
David, do yourself and your brother a favor, and go spend 20$ on some inexpensive air cleaner and mount it and clean up under the hood. That's the first place most prospective buyers go, and you don't get a second chance to make a good first impression. Good luck. And thank your brother for his service from us.
I think that's a good price. I'd put it on E-bay like the others have said. It might surprise you what it will bring. But with the story behind this truck I think I'd be keeping it. But that's my opinion for what it's worth. By the way welcome to the board. ..........RUSTY
