I know I need a dizzy cap, rotor, plugs, and wires on it but I don't see how the symtomphs would add up to ignition? The Dizzy clamp is tight and no vacuum leaks as far as I can hear, find, or tell. The truck sat for a few days with the rear tank out but I had the truck doing this before that (I had them plugged and wrapped though).
The guy at O'rielly told my dad that if the stator was bad then the truck wouldn't run at all which I find BS because I found threads on here of people who had similar symtomphs with a bad stator and replaced it and runs fine. So far my dad has gone 40 miles again today and no problems with the truck. I hope nothing comes up my dad has to take the truck another 80+ miles tomorrow. The only thing concerning me is the noise from the cat.

Well my dad is picking up a distributor brand new at O'rielly ($81 for complete dizzy, cap, rotor, TFI module, stator and more) I figured mine as well do it as that will eliminate that and the price isn't to bad (I needed a cap and rotor anyways). Also going to get a fuel filter for the heck of it and throw that on. Hopefully that will fix it, otherwise I am almost completely lost on this topic.
EDIT: I misunderstood my dad he got a TFI Module, cap, rotor, stator, fuel filter, Chiltion manual and some other parts. Also found out after replacing the damn ABS sensor the rear end seeped all the fluid out so I have to fix that too on top of the rear tank leaking again! man this truck is starting to add up but that's ok if it is reliable after this I don't care.

try replacing the distributor module. Mine would act like it was out of gas and then would be fine for a while. DROVE ME NUTS!!!! I taked to a friend over at fleet farm and he said his old truck did that to him and it went away when he replaced the module. They get old and start going bonkers. try it.
The module on the side of the distributor? That is the TFI module I just got a new one and going to replace that among a few other things (needed a tune up anyways). But if it is bad I am going back to autozone because it has a lifetime warranty and that is a brand new one on there. (I bought one from O'rielly today for the same price same warranty because autozone has turned to crap nowadays.)

ok thanks for that info. I have a new one of those so will be putting that on. Before anything I have to fix something else the damn ABS sensor won't seal now for some reason and I lost most of my rear end fluid! I might have to put the old ABS sensor in.

Well updates I seafoamed the truck with two tanks and it only did it once on a very long drive. Hasn't done it so far at all.
I had pulled the codes each time and nothing showed up wrong (passed each time). I still have a new dizzy, cap, rotor, tfi module, and fuel filter and if it does it again going to throw them on. So far the truck is doing great and we are loving everything but the stupid gas mileage and cruise control not working.

Ok so we threw the new distributor in, got a set of plugs and wires and the truck runs great fuel mileage went up some but:
The truck is still doing what it was before. Not as bad as before but it is still doing it. This is starting to drive me nuts.
I still hear a ticking noise but not to bad from the cat.
Been pulling codes almost everyday to see if anything comes up but nothing just a code 11.
Just for a review parts I have replaced:
fuel filter
both fuel pumps in tank
plugs & wires
distributor with new TFI module and stator along with cap and rotor.
air filter
seafoamed the front tank (rear still has a hole in it)
gas caps
ran 2 full tanks of gas through it
a different ignition coil that I know works.
What do you all think it could be?
