Carburetor question
Be got a 1406 Edelbrock carburetor and I put it on my rebuilt 302, the problem is it goes wide open without pushing the throttle. So I pulled the carburetor and the gasket had a Tear in it and was wet with gas. Anyone have any thoughts on why its is going wide-open? And why the gasket was wet with gas?

yeah I checked that seems to be fine, I beginning to wonder if it's a intake leak? The engine starts up fine it just starts running really fast like 3000 rpm without touching the throttle.

Have somebody watch for linkage movement after starting and after you get your foot off of the accelerator pedal. That's to see if the throttle valve is opening all the way open on it's own . It sounds like a return spring is on wrong . Do you have a return spring on it to close the throttle valve up when you get off of the accelerator pedal ?
