I searched the forum, but didn't find anything to this question so far.
I'm having a problem with my '86 F-250. If I put the pedal to the floor the throttle sticks and is an accident waiting to happen. I pump the pedal a couple of times trying to break it loose, but this doesn't seem to work. I have to put it in Neutral and somehow it finally breaks free. Does anyone have any ideas on this one? I don't know if it matters, but I just put in a new IP. Any help would be great.
if there is nothing obvious to be causing the problem, the cable may be frayed internally and causing the problem. I had my 88 do that and caused an immediate and severe case of pucker power of the butthole.
There is a plastic guide inside the cable at the IP end.
If it breaks, the throttle will stick.
The exact location of the break determines if you can not push the throttle down or if it stays down after you press the throttle down.
Removing the cable to change the IP is an easy way to crack heat hardened/brittle plastic.
also check that the accelerator pedal bracket is not bent, the accelerator cable should go straight into it's sleeve. mine was bent over to the right and caused the cable to stick when pressed down all the way.
