Probably been asked before, probably been answered a dozen times but Ill ask again..Are there any options for 3v headers? I am not even necessarily doing it for power. I have a 08 and I have several studs broken. The manifolds look like death warmed over from rust. I cant find any sources for new manifolds. I would almost buy a new set of factories and have them jet hot coated or something if I could find them at a resonable price. It doesnt seem there are many options for exhuast or exhaust manifolds out there. Matter of fact it doesnt seem their are much options period. I have considered a tuner, but have read over and over again that there is not much (if any) mpg to be gained. I would love for it to run better(hey who woudn't) but for the price I would have to gain a little mpg.
Unless you go with shorty’s or actual custom built headers, 99% of all headers will require "massaging" to install (whether it's denting a tube, moving a bracket, etc.). With the mod series engines, many have the opinion that there is little to no gain on HP/TQ over the oem manifolds...and they are probably right as the oem pieces are of a much better design (although BBK does sell shorties and claims more HP/TQ).....so if you are in a have to position, IMHO, I would go with shorties for ease of install
Hedmann in the 60's/70's an excellent product and considered one of the top mfg's with Hooker....they were built in Culver City, Ca until a few years ago. Beginning in the late 80's Hedmann quality began declining & today, they are considered an "inexpensive Header", meaning, you get what you pay for. IMHO I would place Patriot & Blackjack in the same category (although both seem to be offering a higher-quality header line also).
I will suggest this.....in general, the head plate should be at least 3/8" (1/2" is best), tubing should be at least 16 gauge (14 is best).....otherwise leaks and burn-though are going to be a problem as well as the longetivity of the headers.
Yes I agree. Thanks for the post. I have had several hot rods and hooker and hedman headers seemed to be bottom of the chain. Like I said my main concern was rust. I would actually buy another factory set and have them coated if I could find them resonably priced. I just hear of them warping and needing machined. I thought if I could find a good quality aftermarket set, it would be worth it. The truck had a plow on it for a short time and it ate the heck out of them.
