I discovered that Thorley makes a set of headers for the ford V-10. Click Here
Does anyone have a set of these installed on their SD? If so, what did you think of the performance increase? How expensive are they? Where did you purchase? I can not find an internet retailer that lists a price.
I guess if they are in the ballpark of the Borla's, price wise, I will go with the SS Borla's. The Thorley's are constucted of mild steel.

Heavy, Do you believe the Ceramic coating will allow the headers to last as long as SS? I am not a header guru; never owned a vehicle w/ a set. I have read that ceramic coating will allow the header to move the hot exhaust gases faster, preventing less heat build up in the engine bay.
I will call Thorley tomorrow, see what the cost is. I'll post my findings here
If the cost is lower than expected then look into JETT-HOT COATINGS for the steel ones. I should have done this to my Borlas before the install. It will keep them protected and looking good.
Hey Guys,
I called Thorley today, the quote they gave me was $595 for the standard chrome headers and $835 for the ceramic coated. The Thorley rep. said the price was a MSRP and he recomended Summit Racing for a better price. He also claimed that the ceramic coating was "better"than JET-HOT. Thorley does not coat the headers themselves; they source it out to MB Performance. He did give me a number to contact the MB Performance Rep, it was the wrong number.
I did contact Summit. The price for the chrome headers was $417, and $539.69 for the ceramic coated.
After talking to the Summit salesman, I called JET-HOT. The initial quote offered was $375 for coating the headers and Y-Pipe. After explaing to him the Summit/Thorley price, he offered a 20% discount: $300.
As explained earlier, I am not an expert on the subject of headers, but dollars and cents are the bottom line. My SD is a 2001, I expect to own it for 3-4 more years. Both coating mfg. offer a 3yr. rust thru warranty, JET-HOT offers alifetime warranty against "flaking". I am 95% sold on the Thorley coated headers.
I would like a little advice from those in the "know".
I have no direct experience to offer. I have always heard that Thorleys Tri-Y are best for low rpm torque. Which means it's always 2 into 1 as it is collected. This is instead of a single collector. That's on a v8 though. I don't know what they would do with 5 cyl. per bank.
Any pics anywhere?
They sound like a good deal to me, with the coating.
Hey guys,
I haven't come across any pic's, but they are a tri-wye setup. It confuses me too how they can configure a tri-wye for a V-10. Maybe I will ask the Thorley rep. if he can email a some pics. I will post them if he does. They apperently developed these headers for the owners vehicle. I think it is great to have a another V-10 fan in such a high position that hopefully will benefit us all. Thorley claims a dyno'd 36hp increase with a substatial increase in the 1500-3000 rpm range.
I am going to order them soon. I am just waiting for summit to get more in stock. Will keep you posted.
These pictures are direct from Thorley. These are just mock-ups, obviously. I ordered my headers last night (2-03). Summit does not stock the ceramic coated header. I had to order first, 2 week wait. No biggie.
I really like the wye-pipe merge. This along w/ the ceramic coating should really hurry-up the exit of the exhaust gases.

The full size pics. are in my gallery.
Thorley claims these will fit my CC SB, no problem. From looking @ borlas and banks, it seems that those packages have a more distance between the wye and the cat flange. The thorleys appear to travel down @ less of an angle to the horizontal. I will let all of you know when they get here and are installed.
I can't wait to get these on!

Those are nice!! The pics look like they are reversed though, like passenger side is really drivers side, or they used a conventional camera and reversed the negatives. You know me, it seems a shame to bottle them up w/single exhaust Keep us posted on install and power increase please.Check gasket quality,i ran copper gaskets because i did not want blowout.
V10KLZZ71S
I asked the thorley rep. about the gaskets, He said they are copper gaskets and very good quality. They will not honor warranty claims unless the headers are installed w/ thier gaskets.
I will try to take pictures of the install. 2 problems with that: ex-girlfriend has my/our digital camera (Beatch!) and I will be way too anxious to get the job done. I will try though.
I'm looking forward to here from you guys as to the performance of the Doug Thorley Headers. I'm in the market for headers and was leaning towards the Banks, but have read (on this site) that they are too free flowing and actually lose power in the low RPM, and are really good at high RPM (3000 +) I don't like this shift in power band, I'm sure is okay for the V-10 motor homes. If the Doug Thorley 's keeps the band low and is usable through the entire power band, I'll get them in a heartbeat. Let us know how they are. Thanks.
