The old boy is just about to turn 200k, can't believe how well this truck has run over the years and how few problems I have had in 14 years. I am thinking it's about time for some new fuel injectors as a preventive troubleshoot. Any thoughts from those who have changed these, looking for good quality and bang for the buck if anybody has a suggestion it would be greatly appreciated.
Aside from your truck being a little long in the tooth (and I would somewhat object to 200k being long in the tooth for this engine if iit's been well cared for), may I ask why new injectors?
Is it missing? Idling rough? Sudden fuel mileage decrease?
I admit I know very little about the injectors on this engine but I also tend not to throw money and parts at an engine unless I have data or good reason to do so.
Perhaps there's a procedure out there on how to check them for proper working condition?
No issues, but I do a lot of camping and fishing and get into some pretty remote areas. Just thinking that at 200k it might be time to change them out before I get stranded a long way from anything. I am just not sure what the life expectancy is for injectors, hence the post. As far as the truck engine, I plan on another 100k easy, I have maintained it with due diligence from day one as this truck was a factory order. My long in the tooth quote was directed to my shocks.
Just wondering what the life span is for injectors, I am going to do some research and I will post what I find. I noticed that you run Bilstein front, are you happy with the performance, and why the different shocks in the back?
I doubt youll need injectors anytime soon. Besides, even if you do have an injector go out miles from home, your truck will still run. Heck, Im willing to bet you could drop 4 or 5 injectors on these V10s and still be able to make it home!
I changed all of my coils at 85 k and again at 170k I am sure that is probably overkill, now I just carry two spares with my truck survival kit and will replace as they fail. I am getting the feeling that injectors on this are pretty resilient, so I think I will just carry a couple of spares as well. Thanks for the input.
If you are worried about the injectors you could always remove them and take them to an injector shop. They can flow test, clean and rebuild if neccessary.
I had to replace one injector at 150K. I had to replace 3 or 4 coils. Two vacumme hoses under throttle body. Speed sensor. PCV. And most recent, the oil filler cap (read my post).
In 15 years you would think that there would be a significant benefit by replacing the OEM injectors with a better, more modern injector with possibly more holes for a better atomization of the fuel?
