Decided to pick up a heavy duty relay last night (12v 30amp for $5 at O'Reilly), so looks like I'll be going that route. Seems pretty straightforward.

I notice DUI says nothing smaller than 12ga wire for the hot. I think that relay is over-kill, but it will work. I read that 15amp was recommended.

You spend $400 for a really nice ignition, and then $5 on a cheap Chinese relay? IMO you just created the weak link. To each their own, but I think you'd be better off to find an oem relay (Ford) at j/y and take a spare. Those never seem to go out. Good luck.

Lol, I was thinking the same thing. But for what it's worth, it's made in the USA.
I didn't like the idea of adding ANY link in between, but using a relay is what I've seen continually recommended.

I figured I'd use it to get it working and swap a higher quality one in its place later.

If it ever goes out, it's as simple as bypassing it until I get home.

Yes, you're correct. That is a good way to wire it. Made in the U.S.A? Is that possible? Is anything made there? (I hate it when facts get in the way of my soap boxing arguments, ha ha.)

Classicinlines has a good article about how to hook one up, but it's so simple I doubt you need a guide.

New carb and new ignition/dizzy! I can't wait to hear what you think.

It's a shame we can't organize a group buy of the DUI's to bring the price down for one and all.

For $5 I'm gonna grab a spare or two and keep them in the glove box. If nothing else, I can just bypass it to get it started, should I ever need it.

Either way:

Oh.... wow....

I've had my Bronco for almost 10 years, and I think this is the first time it's ever driven how I've wanted it to. Well spent!

I am happy you are pleased with the product and the effect it has had on your engine performance. Did they supply a spec. sheet of the curve, when it comes in, when is max? Is that the new 1848 I see on the engine?

Having a spare relay is a good idea with any engine. I believe I would also carry a spare gm 4 pin module ($14).

Good for you, AB!!!!!!

Agreed! I plan on getting a spare cheap 4-pin module and a cheap coil, to get me home if I ever need it. Then repurchase the good stuff from Performance.

They have a reference number etched onto the bottom of the distributor, which they use to catalog the curve. But nothing that gives any information to m. Either way, I plan on scoping it out and writing it down, so I can copy it over to my '84.

And yes, the 1848 is on there, and it runs great. I'll post more about that in my other thread today.

btw, that cap is ginormous.

After buying the DUI, I don't know if I can risk betting that much.

Let's just say my first test drive confirmed it was money well spent.

It just feels healthier, stronger, more responsive, and happy. I can't wait for work to be over so I can go drive it again.
It pulls really hard, and I went cruising down the interstate at 80 and it felt like it was floating along.

Awesomeness!

I've been really looking into the DUI setup. Last time I drove my truck before I parked it. I had it in third and floored it And she was jerking like as the coil was about to go out. I was like seriously not again. I parked it and was kinda bummed. So after that I would constantly search and search about the dui and how to wire it up.

Happy to hear your results! I'm convinced

Oops, missed this.
Yes, once you go to checkout, it'll ask all the specs of your vehicle. You may have to go a few steps into paying for it, but the form is before it asks for any payment information.

I just found something on another forum that raised an issue I never considered: The DUI is not smog legal in California. MSD is. I am exempt so I'm not concerned, but other members still have to pass inspection. Is that something others have considered?
