That does not look like a motorcraft filter? Flip it over and see if it is smooth or has a raised section with an o ring. If no raised portion and o ring you are not getting the best filtering. The motorcraft one had a fine outer later and a raised section with Oring that fits in a recess in the filter housing.

I replaced it with a Napa Gold #3899, is that not good?
And I will NEVER buy from NAPA again! I didn't have much of a choice this time, as I didn't have access to transportation, but $90 for the filter....And RockAuto sells the motorcraft for $47.89. Wish I could return it! I will be buying a back up set in advance...
Not that it would have helped in this situation. I did not know the difference until I changed mine for the first time since I owned the truck recently. I took the old one out that looked like his and had the new motorcraft there and started to get worried I bought the wrong filter they were that different. Turned out it was a aftermarket and the shape is not even close on the back side.
Ok, I'm thinking that the crap I bought for gelling was just that...CRAP.
Yesterday, changing out the filters, the truck ran beautiful. This morning, fired right up. Let it warm up for about 5 minutes. Again, temps were at around 135 each. I did program my SG to report FICM Main...and I happened to notice it was at 43.
I get out of town only a few miles and the truck starts sputtering and dies just like yesterday! WTF! I thought I was in the clear. But I'm assuming it is the same, because it was taking forever to hear the pump stop before starting.
Buy from Advance Auto and use their online coupons for deep discounts.
Josh
that's the only way i've bought parts for a couple years now.. it's almost silly the money i've saved. then just opt to pick up in-store, its ready within an hour. only bummer is the coupon codes don't work with oil. but you save a boat load on filters, and they carry Motorcraft.

sorry to hear.
i've READ (aka, "heard it on the internet") that the anti-gel additives and fuel need to be above like 40* or something to properly mix.. i can't prove or disprove that, but i assume you haven't had the opportunity to have the truck in a garage overnight to thaw out? wish ya the best getting it going again.
