97 f250 5.8. my speedo isn't working at all, abs light is on a flashing o/d. I have replaced the abs sensor twice one from autzone and now one from napa. I know read the codes... my uncle works in a transmission shop, just haven't been able to get it in. we had extremely cold weather here, -5 and just before the cold all these above symptoms happened. Once it warmed up, I cleaned the sensor and o/d light was not flashing trans shifted good, but speedo was jumping. Came out the next day and all my problems came back. so im thinking the PSOM? im going to get a new cluster, but was wondering if a bad cluster would cause the flashing o/d and abs? im sure its been covered, im just finding a lot of symptoms about the diesels. thanks for any help.
The sensor on the rear axle almost never goes bad but it gets changed a lot.
You say it worked after you cleaned it and now it does not. That would tell me you have a problem in the rear end or the sensor plug.
I would put the sensor back in that came with the truck and pull the cover off the rear end and check it out. Sounds like you have shavings in the oil.
You can unplug the PSOM and see if the abs light goes out as you drive, if it does then the PSOM is shorting the AC signal from the rear axle to ground.
OR
You can unplug the RABS module and see if the speedometer starts working and the o/d light does not flash.
This may not tell you much as if the signal is week and you unplug one module the other may work for a while.
ok, bought a used cluster from the salvage yard, speedo will actually read speed, no flashing o/d but speedo bounces a little and abs light is still on? what else can I check?
