ABS Light / Speedo problem
However, this past week, after about 15-20 mins of driving, the needle will jump (coinicidentally) to my actual speed ... from 65 to 70 without actually speeding up my truck. The tac. isn't affected. The ABS light also kicks on immediately after this happens. And in just the past couple of days, the ABS light will sometimes come on right at startup. I know the speedo is run via the ABS system but I have no idea where to start looking for the problem. I've talked to Autozone who will pulll check engine light codes but they can't do ABS light codes. Is there any way to pull ABS codes without an OBDII meter which I don't have access to and am not planning on buying?? I've been reading this forum since my problem started a week ago and it looks like you guys may be the only resource around competent enough to give me a definite answer. I'd greatly appreciate any help you can provide on this as I'm supposed to drive to Charlotte next Fri. night for the NASCAR race ... would hate to have that annoying orange glow on my cluster for 8 hours. Thanks!!
Based on the symptons you describe, the first thing that comes to my mind as a possible cause is the rear anti-lock brake sensor which is mounted on the top of the rear differential case on your truck. That is the sensor that controls your ABS system and also provides vehicle speed data to the PCM (and hence controls the speedo).
If you do a search in this forum you will find some previous threads on the subject. Replacing the sensor is something that can easily be done yourself, if necessary.
Hope this helps...good luck.
