Well my brake pedal is stuttering while pushing down.
Have an abs light. Pulled codes. Left front sensor issue.
Would this cause my pedal stutter?
Removed #10 fuse in cabin and it stopped. So did the speedo.
So thinking before I dive into a master cylinder or brake booster....replace sensor?
1999 Eddie Bauer 5.0. AWD
So do I get the 4wd sensor or the 2wd?
Before you go out and buy the sensor, check the wheel bearings. Jack up the front end and push/pull the wheel. If there's play, isolate it to the bearings or ball joints (or both). Or, just remove the sensor from the bearing assembly and check for signs of contact. It seems like these bearing assemblies don't last long, or at least not as long as the bearings on my '91 Ranger. Neither do the ball joints.
If the bearings are worn enough, the speed sensor ring gear can contact the sensor. If you put a new sensor in a worn/loose bearing assembly, the sensor will be damaged. The only way to fix this is with a new bearing assembly (which includes the sensor).
I got my bearing assembly (including sensor) for about $100 from Rock Auto. It was a Timken, which is what was in there originally. You can certainly spend more than that, but I wouldn't spend less on a questionable brand.
Speed sensors start at about $10 and go up from there depending on who makes it.
It would take about 10 minutes to change the sensor. The bearing assembly would take an hour or two depending on how quickly you work and what else you do while you're in there.
