I can't find my manual right now, so maybe the information is in there but I thought I'd ask here.
How difficult is it to change out a rear wheel speed sensor? Does the wheel bearing (hub) have to come out in order to get it changed?
I've got an intermittent ABS fault that comes up for the Left Rear Wheel speed sensor.
When I took it in to get it looked at, the vehicle has decided to be fault free for the last few days and he couldn't get the signal to drop out on his multiple test drives.
the sensor is cheap (relatively) so I'm not afraid to just throw a part at it hoping it sticks, unless it is a very involved process to get at it.
I priced a new wheel bearing unit and they are VERY expensive, but they do come with the wheel speed sensor, making me think that they are pretty well married.

Keep in mind that a bad hub can have excessive play and cause an intermittent fault in the ABS. So I don't know if you want to try just the sensor or if you want to bite the bullet and change both right from the get go.
Agreed. I had a sensor I replaced last year for a fault....all was good till the bearing started making noise this summer while towing a trailer out of town. Ended up performing parking lot surgery at an advance auto.
