This morning saw several spots on the drive way from my e350. Crawled underneath. Saw brake fluid spatters all round the frame, differential.
Seems to be leaking out of the brake lines that are running into small modules mounted on the differential.
Since it is under warranty, it is now sitting at the dealership for repairs.
Picked up the e350, yesterday.
According to the dealership, it was not a break fluid leaking problem, it was the differential fluid vent tube doing it job.
I asked how could this happen?
Response, normal operation when towing and the fluid heats up. Funny I do not have a hitch to tow anything yet, and the weather was in the 30's for several days when this happened.
I asked if the fluid level in the diff has been checked and they said it was it specs.
I also mentioned that it did not look like 90 wt gear lube, but that is what they said it was. Also said this was common in the larger f series.
It has been over 20 years since I owned a Ford product, and have issues with the dealership, is this correct? Is the dealership right it this case.
That is very unusual IMO. I've had several Ford vans and various other trucks that I have towed with and never seen this. I would be skeptical but just keep an eye on it. It sounds to me like it had to have been overfilled.
Yes, I will monitor this very closely. Now that you mentioned it, it was serviced at the same dealership for routine oil, filter, tire rotation. They could have over filled it as part of the maintenance.
I have 37 Ford E350 vans in my fleet, and out of the 5 2014's we just bought I have seen 2 of them leaking in this same vent line At first I thought it was the rear rubber brake hose leaking, but it was indeed the vent line coming out of the 45 degree white plastic fitting. It seems to be more like spraying everywhere. Just another Ford Flaw either they overfilled the Differential way to much or we have to blame the awesome engineer team who are on a downhill descent to the bottom

Bottom of what exactly? Talk about a hyperbole-filled non-contributory bit of info!!
Okay so 2 out of 37 vans or more accurately 2 of 5 had a relatively minor problem and suddenly the existing vans quality are now questioned? How have they performed during their time in this fleet?
If we're trying to color this vent issue in such a bad light lets consider what will be a rather huge recall concerning air bags, those installed across numerous brands. If there's a bottom to something wouldn't this be the more important item to deal with? Were the affected brands engineers now heading towards the bottom too for specifying a part they didn't know or have reason to believe would turn out to be defective?
Yes its aggravating as hell when something thought to be simple and uncomplicated seems to cause understandable concern for a vehicle owner. In the larger scheme of things an errant vent line not causing any huge issues would appear to me to be rather insignificantly, statistically or otherwise.
