Looking for some info on replacement batteries for 99 Power Stroke, how many cranking amps and what's average battery life. It will used to haul a boat and maybe 30ft or less camper.
Thanks Bob
Welcome to FTE. There have been a lot of threads on batteries. You can do a search and find them. I always want the most amps I can get. I try and find something made by Johnson Controls. I have had good luck with them. Others might have different likes. Some depends on what you can afford too. I am sure others will chime in.
I picked up 2 new 1000CCA Kirkland batteries from Costco last winter. They sat for a month in some frigid condition and started my truck when it was 5 degrees last week. I figure 4 yrs is about what i might get out of them, maybe 5.
Optima is about as reliable as it gets if you want to fork over around $200 apiece. Other wise I've been very happy with MotoCraft over the years, I had one in my F-150 that lasted about 8 yrs and was still going strong and when I sold the truck.
Costco. I don't like the Ah ratings on the Optimas. I have an Optima in my sail boat, because I don't want acid to spill... but that's the only perk for me.

Optima's are a little lower in their Ah and CCA in comparison with MotoCraft, but I've work with Optima's for years over a variety of equipment. Optima's take a beating. Even though they will occasionally have a cell short out for fail, it's no where near as frequent as I saw with non-AGM. Plus i have access to their recommended battery conditioner should i not be able to recharge it from my battery charger.
I finaly give up on my 25 year love affair with optima batteries they failed on two different vehicles, both in about 12 months.now trying Oddesy, other wise use to have good luck with most lead acid batteries, got the best service out of those Interstate Megatrons as mentioned above.
I have only used auto zone durlast gold batteries. In my truck and subaru. I would highly recommend them. Price/warranty seems fair to me. No complaints.
I have Napa premiums in mine and won't do it again...the only reason I still have them is because they continue to fail under warranty.
That's exactly the reason I still have Pep Boys' Bosch batteries in mine. I'm on the 3rd set of free batteries now, but it's really annoying having to go through this every two years or so.
Optimas are junk!!!!! Customer service is equally good! For these trucks stay away from them. My truck is the only vehicle I've had problems with them in they dont like diesels. For a gasser no problem I have one in my jeep and jetta. I also have no electrical issues with my truck so that's clear
I also dislike Optima, in gas or diesel. I have one in my '04 Mustang Cobra, and I'm considering buying a different battery even though I'm under warranty. I'm tired of having to take it back to Auto Zone.
We've had very good luck with Interstate Megatrons as well as Deka. Right now I'm trying out a set of Diehard Platinums (made by Odyssey) and I have nothing but good things to say thus far. I paid dearly for that satisfaction though, to the tune of about $400 for both.
