I've tried just about everything and I can't get the distributor to fully seat it's short by about 3/4". I've got a MSD distributor and I used the shaft off of my old original distributor to help line up the oil pump shaft with the dizzy. I have spent about 3 hours and no results. I contacted MSD and even sent pictures. The motor is out of the vehicle and so I am cranking it by hand. My final plan is to pull the pan and the oil pump, install the distributor then align the oil pump shaft into the distributor. Will this work?

Thanks for the advise. I will drop the pan, pull the oil pump and shaft then install the distributor. If it seats then I will secure it on top and re-install the oil pump shaft and oil pump.

Wait! Dizzies are notoriously hard to seat on these engines. The drive shaft lays against the side of the tunnel and doesn't go in the dizzy. I've used grease in the past to prop up the shaft. Also turning the shaft a little may help.
