Distributor

I'm in the process of changing the distributor on my 1987 F150 300ci I6. In removing the distributor I broke the drive gear. Luckly I was able to get the broken piece out.
I've got the pin out of the drive gear and I'm trying to get the oil pump drive shaft out but it won't budge. How is it taken out?

Strange that when you removed the distributor the drive gear broke and the intermediate shaft stayed in the oil pump.

One end of the intermediate oil pump drive shaft is a loose fit in the oil pump. The other end of the shaft has a groove around it that snaps into the distributor end.

On the distributor end the shaft is a pretty tight press fit but you can pull it apart with your hands.

The shaft should have stayed with the distributor.

If the shaft is siezed in the oil pump end you need to pull the oil pan and then the pump.

The arrow in the picture points to the end that snaps into the distributor end.

F150xlt:
Thanks for the info. My description does lack some wording as the oil pump shaft did come out with the distributor. The distributor was so hard to get out that I had to use a pry bar and that's when I think I broke the gear.

Thanks again for the help.
