oil system check

I recently replaced the intake on my 352, and have heard about oil pump driveshafts falling out when the dizzy is put back in. It seems that my dizzy goes all the way down and everything is in place but i want to check before this truck is driven daily. Right now it just sits. Occasionally running it when it feels like running. Is there any crucial holes/passageways that need to be precisely lined up so that oil can get to the lifters and top end? I just need to make sure it's all in order before i drive it alot.

Thanks
Nate

oil system check

Nate! Check the archives for tons of info on oil system issues with FE motors. About the distributor and drive shaft issue; The oil pump is driven by the distributor which is driven by the camshaft. The shaft that connects the distributor to the oil pump can hang in the distributor as you pull the distributor out, then become dislodged from the distributor and fall down in the oil pan. To prevent this problem Ford installed a collar on this shaft that keeps the shaft in the oil pump when the distributor is taken out. Often people will replace the pump drive shaft and not install the collar. This is like setting a little trap for the next guy and usually results in the shaft in the oil pan. If your engine is running and has oil pressure, don't worry about this. If you have taken out and reinstalled the distributor, check that you have oil pressure as soon as you start the engine. Whenever you install a new oil pump be sure to install the retainer collar on the pump drive shaft.
