I have a 2003 E-350SD van. Just recently the brake light(bulb, not dash indicator) on my van is always on. Truck not started-brake light is off. When the vehicle is started the brake light comes on. Parking lights on or all lights being on makes no difference. Red light stays on in bright/braking mode.
I've already changed the stop light switch with no luck. I've heard about an adjustment you can make to correct this problem. I don't see one. Should I be looking at fuses? I know bad grounds can cause issues, I'm just not sure how to troubleshoot the wiring. I forgot to check the upper stop light. I'll do that.
I did change the bulbs a whiile back. The store was out of the 3050/3150 oem bulb. The had 3450's in stock and they told me the change in draw was not a problem. They've been fine for months. Any input would be much appreciated.
Two details I didn't explain properly6. When you start the engine no lights come. When you hit the brakes the light is on full bright until the truck is shut off. I just checked the top brake light over the cargo doors and it's working properly.
According to the diagrams, there is a brake light in the cluster that comes on when the parking brake is left on, or when you are low on brake fluid in the master cylinder.
