cold temp or other problem????

This morning it was -5 outside when I went to warm the truck up !! I FORGOT TO PLUG THE BLOCK HEATER UP LAST NIGHT AS WELL !!! So , I started the truck up and let it warm up to almost full operational temps and had to split . Well , my rig decided other wise and was like a turtle and didn't have power and at the stop sign just cut out ! I turned the key a few times and it started back up. Seemed to gain enough strength to go on and so I did. Still , I noticed a lack of full power . About 10% or a little more less power I would say roughly! I'm thinking FICM maybe or was it just the cold ?

Reminder from my post yesterday , (I was out in the snow with the truck being a kid in my $31,000 RIG and after about 15 min or so she died down when I got into the throttle and acted like it wanted to cut off or wasn't getting fuel. I let off the gas and drove off and then thought I could notice a drop in power! ) So , based on experience here and all the different issues people describe ....What do you guys point your fingers at as probable cause ? I want my rig to last me a long time as this is why I even thought about buying a diesel truck in the first place. I had heard so much rave about how they last forever and yet after , I see all the little kinks and flaws in these posts about certain issues that the 6.0 has .

My truck is the 07 so , I would have thought all the previouse years and their issues would have been resolved !!!!

Shoot me your thoughts on what this may be so I can nip it in the bud now !!

You didn't over rev the engine playing in the snow did ya?

Is the boost coming up when applying throttle? May have popped a CAC hose or blew the plastic tube playing around in the snow.

boost seems to be ok I think . I can check though . What should I look for under the hood ? And I didn't stay full into the throttle in the snow I just peddled the truck and kept the rpm's somewhere around 2000 - 3000 . I never stayed into it longer than maybe 5 or 6 seconds . The truck is stock with 41,000 miles on it .

Anti gel in your fuel, source of fuel, possible gelling? Check for codes first.

Diesel Kleen white anti gel, or ford additive with antigel, or Stanadyne with antigel. Do you have this problem lower than 1/4 tank before? Also, when last fuel and oil filters, what oil you running?

1st time issue with anything on the truck period !

I just had the oil changed about 1000 miles ago and took it to a local shop and they just used there standard oil for diesel changes.

So , I dont know what brand they used ? Why ?

What is the best oil to use or to help prevent any problems? I will do as recommended because I want this rig to last !!

Just give me a list of what the recommended oil is , Fuel additive , and any other normal things I can do to prevent issues !

Give me the 101 !! I am a new diesel owner !!

Follow this checklist as a starting point:
Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums - View Single Post - Just bought 06 F350 FX4 6.0!!

*Oil - Rotella T6 5W40 (or their new 0W40 in the winter if you live where it's consistently below freezing actual temps)
*Keep your tank above half in the winter, the diesel you buy in MD should be appropriately winterized at the pump. If you want to supplement in, use white bottle Powerservice
*Buy a load tester for batteries, a maintainer, and a real charger. if you don't drive the truck daily when it's cold.

Also make sure the oil and fuel filters and caps are OEM only.

Fuel gelling would be my best guess. We don't usually get below zero around here but it was 11 below a few weeks ago and I saw at least a dozen Powerstrokes on the side of the road on the way to help my son with his who had the same problem.
