Ok so yesterday I took my 88 F150 302 5.0L C6 auto transmission 3.55LS rear end reg cab long bed 4x4 truck for a drive on the highways and biways for the first time. I had a small load of scrap in the bed too that I was bringing in. So my dad decided to drive this time since my truck still has speedometer problems and I didn't want a ticket. Well he got on the highway and the truck wouldn't shift out of first gear. I drove this truck on the backroads and felt it shift before. So we pulled over and I checked the fluid (forgot to check it before I left) and it was low. I figured ok truck has been sitting 6 1/2 years so probably normal for the fluid to get low since I haven't checked it since starting it about a month ago. Well I had my dad run to the local store in a different truck to get Tranny fluid. Put trans fluid in it and started her up this time trans fluid was good put her in reverse then drive and seemed to be fine but didn't get up to speed. Now here is the part I need help on. When I put it in drive I pulled forward a few feet and she stalled. I let her be a few seconds then started her and I heard a knocking noise. I got out of the truck to see what was the noise and she just had the knocking noise get louder but couldn't find the source. Then she stalled out again and it sounded like I threw a rod right before it stalled out. Getting late I told my dad to go home and get the 02 F250 of ours and tow it home we stopped 3/4s of the way home and I looked on the ground and saw a puddle of oil. Before all this my oil pressure gauge wasn't working and I guessed the sensor was bad. But after hearing this I guess my oil pump may have been bad.
So my question is how can I check if I threw a rod (I don't think I cracked the block but not sure)?
How can I check if I have a bad oil pump?
Do you think the trans is bad or just being it sat so long fluid got low and that's why it didn't shift?
This truck has lots of sentimental value to me so I would like to get her going again. Thanks for any help guys.
